West London Collaborative had concerns that patient experience of restraint was not being fully represented from the point of view of those who experience restraint. Patients are often invited to speak at just one or two slots at conferences on restraint  - most speakers are nursing staff, PMVA specialists or academics.

We decided to host a shadow conference around a staff event being organised at WLMHT to openly explore the meaning of being held for patients and carers - we wanted to have time to air different opinions and experiences and to explore the issue of Human Rights.
The event at the Double Tree Hilton was extremely popular -  and oversubscribed.
